WeatherDallas, Fort Worth Cancel Classes as North Texas Braces for Snow, Wintry Mix

With a winter storm warning in effect, Dallas and Fort Worth are preparing for a mix of snow and rain expected to begin overnight on Wednesday. In response, both cities have announced the cancellation of school classes as the region braces for severe winter weather conditions.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has upgraded several North Texas counties, including Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Rockwall, and Hunt, from a winter storm watch to a warning. These areas are expected to experience a combination of snow, freezing rain, and sleet, creating hazardous travel conditions, particularly for morning commutes on Thursday.

Ellis and Kaufman counties remain under a winter storm watch as the region watches the storm’s progression. Authorities are warning residents to stay indoors as much as possible and prepare for potential power outages due to the weight of ice accumulating on trees and power lines.

State Emergency Response crews are already stationed throughout the affected areas, particularly along the Interstate 20 corridor, where heavy snowfall is predicted to cause the most disruption. Local officials have also warned of difficult road conditions, with drivers advised to avoid unnecessary travel.

The City of Dallas and Fort Worth have activated their emergency response teams, ensuring that crews are ready to clear roads and address any accidents or emergencies that may arise. Schools, public offices, and businesses have canceled activities in anticipation of the storm’s impact, urging residents to remain cautious.

As of now, the storm is expected to move out by Friday morning, but icy conditions may persist well into the weekend.
