Scattered Severe Storms Late Afternoon Through Sunset

ClimateScattered Severe Storms Late Afternoon Through Sunset

A Forecast First Alert remains in effect across the Twin Cities region through this evening. Severe Thunderstorm Watches are active until 10 PM for east-central and southeastern Minnesota, including western Wisconsin. Scattered storms, some severe, have already begun forming along I-90 near Austin, with risks including large hail (up to 2 inches), damaging winds, and the potential for isolated tornadoes. As storms progress past sunset, they are expected to weaken, moving out of the metro area by 9 PM. Afterward, skies will clear, leaving temperatures cooler, with overnight lows in the low 60s. Patchy fog may develop north of the metro.

The storms are expected to gradually weaken in intensity after dark, with isolated severe threats persisting east and southeast of the metro. By 9 PM, the storm system is anticipated to exit into central Wisconsin, fully clearing the viewing area.

As the cold front passes through, skies will begin to clear, bringing in cooler temperatures behind it. Lows will dip into the low 60s tonight, and regions north of the metro could experience patchy fog developing overnight due to the cooler air mass and moisture leftover from the storms.

Residents should stay vigilant for weather updates, as additional severe weather warnings may be issued.
