How the Food Replacement Program Works

Eligible SNAP recipients who have experienced food losses due to events like power outages lasting four hours or more can apply for replacement benefits. The program is designed to reimburse recipients for the value of the lost food, providing much-needed relief to families recovering from these disruptions.

To qualify for the food replacement assistance, recipients must file a claim with the Florida DCF within 10 days of the incident that caused the food loss. The claims are then reviewed, and if approved, replacement benefits are issued directly onto the recipients’ existing EBT cards.

Approved claims will result in benefits being reloaded onto EBT cards, allowing families to purchase groceries and other essential food items to replace what was lost.
