Walmart has issued a recall for more than 12,000 cartons of its Great Value Family Size Chicken Broth following concerns over packaging issues that could lead to product spoilage. The announcement was made by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on January 8.
Details of the Recall
The recall, which began on December 11, affects products sold in 242 Walmart stores across nine states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.
The recalled cartons are identified by a “best used by” date of March 25, 2026, and bear the UPC code 007874206684. A total of 2,023 cases, each containing six cartons, are included in the recall.
Reason for the Recall
According to the FDA, the packaging issues could result in the chicken broth becoming spoiled, posing potential health risks to consumers. No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported so far. Walmart has urged customers who purchased the affected products to return them for a full refund or to dispose of them safely.
Consumer Guidance
Customers can verify if they have purchased the recalled product by checking the UPC code and “best used by” date printed on the carton. Walmart’s customer service is available for inquiries, and the company has assured that it is working closely with the FDA to resolve the issue promptly.
This recall highlights the importance of food safety and the proactive measures taken by major retailers like Walmart to address potential risks and protect consumers.
