“These athletes, coaches, and family members were returning home from the National Development Camp held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas,” the organization added.

The Russian Figure Skating Federation also released a statement acknowledging that several Russian skaters were on board. The names of the victims have not yet been released, but authorities are working to notify families.

Mid-Air Collision Sparks Investigation

According to initial reports, the American Airlines regional jet collided with a U.S. military helicopter while preparing to land at Washington Dulles International Airport.
