President Donald Trump has announced a landmark $500 billion initiative to bolster artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States. Joined by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, and Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison, Trump unveiled the creation of a new company, Stargate, during an event at the White House on Tuesday.
Described as the “largest AI infrastructure project in history,” Stargate aims to build the foundational physical and virtual systems required to support the next generation of AI technologies. The initial investment of $100 billion will kickstart the initiative, with plans to expand to $500 billion over the coming years.
Transforming AI Infrastructure
The Stargate project is expected to generate approximately 100,000 jobs across the U.S. while addressing critical gaps in AI infrastructure. Trump hailed the venture as a transformative step forward, stating, “This is a historic day for America. Stargate will ensure the United States leads the world in AI development.”
Ellison provided additional insights, revealing that Stargate’s first major undertaking—a 1 million-square-foot data center—is already under construction in Texas. The facility will serve as a cornerstone for AI development and deployment, setting the stage for a series of state-of-the-art data centers nationwide.
Meeting AI’s Growing Demands
The initiative comes in response to growing concerns from AI leaders about the scalability of existing infrastructure. As advancements in artificial intelligence accelerate, the demand for robust data centers, high-performance chips, and the resources to power them—such as electricity and water—has surged.
“I think this will be the most important project of this era,” Altman said. “We wouldn’t be able to do this without you, Mr. President.”
A Strategic Collaboration
Stargate brings together three influential players in technology and finance. Oracle, one of the largest U.S. data center operators, offers extensive expertise in building and managing these facilities. Meanwhile, SoftBank’s deep financial resources position it to fund the ambitious expansion. OpenAI, a leader in artificial intelligence, provides the innovation necessary to drive the initiative forward.
Masayoshi Son highlighted the global implications of Stargate, saying, “This is about building the future. AI will define the next century, and Stargate ensures the U.S. stays ahead.”
A Vision for the Future
In addition to creating jobs and advancing technology, Stargate aims to position the United States as a global leader in artificial intelligence. The project aligns with the broader goal of ensuring that America remains at the forefront of innovation in the face of increasing competition from countries like China.
As the first phase of the project unfolds, the Texas data center is set to be operational within the next few years, with additional facilities planned for other regions.
“This isn’t just about building infrastructure; it’s about building America’s future,” Trump said in closing. “We’re investing in our people, our economy, and our leadership on the world stage.”
