In a heartwarming display of sportsmanship, Eagles fan Patrick Driscoll made headlines by returning third-string quarterback Tanner McKee’s first career touchdown ball after wide receiver A.J. Brown inadvertently tossed it into the stands during the Eagles’ latest game.
The memorable play occurred late in the fourth quarter when McKee connected with Brown for a 12-yard touchdown pass. The jubilant wide receiver, in the heat of celebration, launched the ball into the crowd, where Driscoll, seated in the front row, caught it.
Driscoll, a lifelong Eagles fan, described the moment as surreal. “I didn’t even realize at first that it was McKee’s first touchdown ball,” he said. “When the team staff approached me and explained, I knew right away it belonged with him.”
Driscoll handed the ball back without hesitation, earning applause from fellow fans and gratitude from the Eagles organization. McKee, who had entered the game following injuries to the team’s starting quarterbacks, expressed his appreciation in a post-game interview.
“I can’t thank Patrick enough,” McKee said. “This is a moment I’ll never forget, and it means the world to me to have that ball. It’s something I’ll cherish forever.”
To show his gratitude, McKee gifted Driscoll a signed jersey and game-used gloves. The Eagles also invited him to a future practice session to meet the team. “It’s more than I ever expected,” Driscoll said. “I’m just happy to have played a small part in Tanner’s special moment.”
The incident highlighted the camaraderie between players and fans, a hallmark of the Eagles’ passionate fan base. McKee, who was drafted in the sixth round in 2023, is seen as a promising talent for Philadelphia. His first touchdown is a significant milestone in his budding NFL career, and it’s made all the more special by the goodwill of a dedicated fan.
As for Driscoll, he’s become somewhat of a local hero in the Eagles’ community. “It’s all part of being an Eagles fan,” he said. “We’re all in this together, and moments like this make it even better.”
