In an interview with NBC DFW, King described the scene as surreal. “It was a packed house, people were in line getting autographs, and we heard this shot,” he said. “It was unreal. It was like everything was in slow motion.” Following the incident, TBAAL staff reportedly followed the suspect outside and alerted authorities, who found Williams in the lobby of a nearby hotel.
King expressed his dismay over the violence that interrupted what should have been a celebratory night, calling it “eerie” that incidents like these are becoming more common. “It is eerie to know that we now live in the kind of world with people who seem to be bent on doing harm to other people, many times for no apparent and sensible reason,” he wrote on social media.
