Eli Lilly has unveiled plans to invest $3 billion in the expansion of its recently acquired manufacturing facility in Kenosha County, Wisconsin. This significant development will bolster the company’s global parenteral product manufacturing network while addressing growing demands for therapies targeting diabetes, obesity, and other medical needs.
The expansion is set to begin construction in 2025 and will create 750 skilled positions, significantly enhancing the current workforce of over 100. The project is expected to also generate more than 2,000 construction-related jobs, reflecting its economic impact on the region.
Strategic Growth to Meet Rising Demand
This move is part of Eli Lilly’s broader investment strategy to enhance manufacturing capabilities. Since 2020, the company has committed $23 billion to new constructions, expansions, and acquisitions globally. The Kenosha facility’s focus will center on the production of injectable medications and the assembly and packaging of devices spanning multiple therapeutic areas.
“The expansion represents our single largest U.S. manufacturing investment outside Indiana and underscores our commitment to ensuring medicine availability,” said Edgardo Hernandez, Lilly’s Executive Vice President and President of Manufacturing Operations. He also highlighted the project’s economic benefits, stating, “We look forward to bringing high-wage, advanced manufacturing, engineering, and science jobs to Wisconsin.”
Integration of Advanced Technologies
Eli Lilly aims to incorporate cutting-edge technologies, including robotics, guided vehicles, and digital automation systems, to expedite the production process. These advancements will enhance speed and precision while allowing staff to prioritize safety and quality in medicine production.

Cambrex Collaboration
In a parallel development, Eli Lilly has partnered with Cambrex to provide expedited clinical development services through its innovation arm, Lilly Catalyze360-ExploR&D. Cambrex will deliver drug products, substances, and R&D expertise from its Longmont, Colorado facility, further enhancing Lilly’s capacity to support biotech collaborators.
With construction slated to begin in 2025, the Kenosha County facility is expected to play a critical role in Eli Lilly’s manufacturing network, both in the U.S. and globally. This investment not only reflects Lilly’s commitment to innovation but also reinforces Wisconsin’s position as a key player in the pharmaceutical manufacturing landscape.
