Oakland, CA—In a stunning revelation that has captured national attention, The Mercury News reported this week that a man abducted as a boy from an Oakland park in 1951 has been found alive after more than 70 years. Luis Armando Albino, now 73 years old, was found through a chance online DNA test taken “just for fun.”

Albino, who was only 3 years old when he was abducted from a California park, had lived his entire life unaware of his true origins. The breakthrough came when Albino’s niece in Oakland, curious about her family history, used DNA testing and old newspaper clippings to piece together the story. The test showed a 22 percent match, leading investigators and family members to finally identify Albino, now a father and grandfather living on the U.S. East Coast.

Albino, who built a life as a retired firefighter and Marine Corps veteran, served in Vietnam and has raised a family of his own. His relatives are overwhelmed with emotion, describing the discovery as a bittersweet reunion with a man they never knew existed but had unknowingly searched for over the decades.

“This has shaken us to our core,” said one family member. “We had heard stories, but to find out after all these years—he’s one of us—it’s like a miracle.”

Albino, for his part, expressed a mixture of shock and curiosity about his past. Though the details of his abduction remain unclear, his newfound family, many of whom still live in California, are eager to connect and learn more about the life he led.

The exact circumstances of his abduction are still under investigation, but this development has sparked renewed hope for other families who have long sought answers about missing relatives. Albino’s case highlights the growing power of modern DNA testing to reunite families across time and distance.

Authorities are now working to unravel the mystery of how Albino was taken and how he ended up living under a different name, far from his birth family.
