The recall covers beef patties produced on December 22, 2024, and involves Angus beef in various sizes.

The affected beef products are being pulled from the market after routine testing by USDA inspectors revealed the presence of E. coli O157:H7, a dangerous strain that can cause severe foodborne illness. Though no cases of illness have been reported, consumers are being urged to discard any of the recalled products in their possession. The recall also includes beef patties sold to restaurants that may have used them in their menu items.

The USDA has classified the recall as a Class I, meaning the products have a reasonable probability of causing serious adverse health consequences. Symptoms of E. coli infection include stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting, and while many people recover without complications, the infection can sometimes lead to kidney failure or even death. This is especially concerning for vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, young children, and those with weakened immune systems.

In response to the recall, Valley Meats has been cooperating with federal authorities, providing detailed information to assist in locating and removing the contaminated products from the market. The company is also working to track down where the beef may have been distributed.
