“I was terrified,” Hawn shared in a recent interview. “I felt like I was supposed to be this happy, bubbly girl, but inside, I was battling panic attacks and overwhelming anxiety. It was like I was living two different lives—one for the public and one for myself.”

Now 78, Hawn has channeled those early experiences into a lifelong mission of mental health advocacy. In 2003, she founded the MindUP program, an educational initiative that teaches children mindfulness techniques to combat stress and anxiety. “I wish I had these tools when I was younger,” she said. “Helping kids understand their emotions and build resilience is one of the most important things we can do.”

Today, Hawn’s life is a far cry from the turbulent beginnings of her Hollywood journey. She finds her greatest joy in family, especially in being a grandmother to eight grandchildren. Her longtime partnership with fellow actor Kurt Russell has created a close-knit family dynamic filled with love and laughter.

“My grandchildren are my world,” Hawn said with a smile. “They remind me to live in the moment and appreciate the simple things in life. Whether it’s baking cookies, playing games, or just sitting together, those moments are precious.”

Hawn also credits mindfulness and meditation for helping her maintain her sense of peace. “I’ve learned to take a step back, breathe, and find balance,” she said. Her family often joins her in meditation sessions, a tradition she hopes will continue for generations.

Hawn’s openness about her mental health journey has inspired many, and her resilience serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, it’s possible to find strength and joy. She remains an active advocate for mental wellness and regularly speaks about the importance of self-care and emotional well-being.

As she reflects on her journey, Hawn emphasizes gratitude for her life, her family, and her ability to make a difference. “I’ve had ups and downs, but I wouldn’t change a thing,” she said. “It’s all part of what makes life beautiful.”
