Wednesday was a difficult day for The American Independent News Network, which is the larger entity that operates The Iowa Independent. Our chief executive and founder announced two of our sister sites would close and their content would be moved to The American Independent.

Dennis Kucinich: Most Improved Candidate

By Garance Franke-Ruta | 08.19.07 | 9:11 am

In answering the religion question, Kucinich quips that he’s spent the past 45 minutes “praying that [George] would call on me.” This seals it for me: Dennis Kucinich is the most improved candidate of contest 2008. He’s finally got a decent haircut, he smiles all the time, he’s frequently funny, and he’s figured out a way to be a strong defender of his positions without being sour and destructive. He even looks five years younger. He’s like a walking one-man advertisement for marriage.

Too bad he’s not a credible campaigner in Iowa! The Iowa caucuses may be goofy in every imaginable way, but they’re famously NOT “rigged” to favor the rich against the unknowns and last-tier long-shots. Not like a national primary would be, not like front-loading the process with even more big states would be. Still, Dennis listened to bad advice and followed his instincts and chose not to run a serious campaign here. In fact, he’s been running AGAINST Iowa while investing in New Hampshire, Nevada, and California.

So, Yepsen and our other pundits ignore him, and I’m predicting an easy zero showing in Iowa. The Kucitizens outside our borders won’t know what hit ‘em, and they’ll blame every imaginable bogeyman. And they’ll never stop to wonder whether any of the folks running his so-called campaign might have caught some whiff of what was coming and then mobilized for a less disastrous outcome. The good ‘citizens won’t ask that question because it won’t fit their Seabiscuit narrative. It won’t square with the mantra that affirms Dennis is snubbed by the evil MSM while acing the online polls. It won’t dampen their faith that “grassroots” fairy dust will win in the end. That Dennis will win, if not as a Dem (screw ‘em), then as the Independent he was born to be. (Yippee!)

Too bad, but it’s too late now. Just 40 days…
