Kucinich Disses Dem Veteran Candidate

By John Deeth | 08.16.07 | 7:25 am

Netroots hero and Iraq War veteran Paul Hackett says presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich verbally lashed out at him during a 2005 conversation, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

In a 2005 Ohio special congressional election that drew intense attention from the progressive internet community, Democrat Hackett narrowly lost to Republican Jean Schmidt in a heavily Republican district.  But he did so without help from fellow Ohio Democrat Kucinich.  Hackett said that the day after winning the primary for the seat:

“(Kucinich) started his conversation off, which was pretty much a unilateral conversation, him to me while I was driving in my car in the 2nd Congressional District, by saying ‘I would rather see Jean Schmidt get elected to Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District than you. Because you are wrong on Iraq, you fought in Iraq, you’re a Democrat in name only,’ and a host of other issues.”

Hackett shared the story in a conference call with reporters while endorsing Kucinich’s 2008 congresional primary opponent Rosemary Palmer.  Palmer’s son was killed while serving in Iraq.

Kucinich’s office does not deny the story, telling the Plain Dealer:

“Congressman Kucinich thanks Mr. Hackett for his service to our country. Congressman Kucinich will continue to fight for and represent the people who elected him to office — the residents of the 10th Congressional district.”

…and continues to dis Veterans Dennis didn’t even bother to send a surrogate to the Iowa Democratic Party Veteran’s Caucus Forum on Monday, August 13 2007 (nor did Mike). Sadly, only one candidate had enough respect for veterans to be present in person. Sadly, only one candidate has worn the boots. Thanks, Chris (Dodd), for being there with and for your fellow veterans.

Why Kucinich will always be a finge character Poor Dennis ,so right on so many things (gay rights, environment, health care) but so wrong on others combined with a solid tin ear for public discourse and the demeanor of a Tolkien character.

What! Sounds like words are being twisted to make some kind of sense to somebody.

I wouldn’t believe a word of this rumor Hackett is not credible

Get Out of Iraq! Get out from under your rocks.  Dennis is trying to save Vets by bringing them home.  Go to You Tube, listen to what he has to say, then decide.  Dennis all the way 08.

In all fairness He may be on the fringe but Mike Gravel is a vet too.  Korea, I think.

fair enough, but… If he wants to be taken seriously, he could have shown up…or perhaps veterans really aren't as relevant or important as Labor, Gays, Media, Minorities, Ag, Environment, etc…the folks they DO show up for. Mike's not even on my radar, not having reached out to veterans (or Iowa, for that matter), and the tiny little blip that was Dennis has fallen off the screen completely. Even though Hillary didn't send a veteran, she at least sent a warm body…Barack forgot to send anyone, so one of his Iowa staffers, a veteran, stepped in. Those two are now on my bottom tier, in the space Dennis and Mike once occupied before they fell off completely. No wonder the GOP continues to “owns” the veteran vote (undeservedly so, but perception is reality…).
