Yes, We’re Still Waiting

By admin | 08.11.07 | 7:49 pm

We’re still waiting — 45 minutes after results were supposed to be announced — to find out the winner of today’s Straw Poll.

With the vote total coming in at under 14,000, two possibilities emerge:

Could the top two have come so close to each other that, in such a small electorate, the percentage difference would trigger a recount of some sort?  (This scenario would be a major blow to Gov. Mitt Romney, and it would give a boost to whomever is number two.)

Or, could there have been an equipment malfunction?

Any other possibilities anyone can think of?

recount for 2nd place? is there any live tv reason to delay?

  • SR

Maybe… …they’re trying to figure out how to announce “none of the above” in a positive way. Even Republicans are getting tired of Republicans. What took you so long?

Another possibility Our are they just being careful because of what’s at stake?

Machines malfunctioned? According to Iowapolitics.com, quoting the Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder, the machines malfunctioned.

    heh.

Don’t point fingers We should remember how long it took then Secretary of State Chet Culver to declare George Bush the winner over John Kerry in the last presidential election. Days, if I recall correctly.

maybe they’re waiting for the USOC to weigh in… *** paging Mr. Spakovsky – please come to the counting room ***

Is recounting even a possibility? I guess it would be with the optic scans, but I’m not sure how heavily they relied on the Diebold machines.

Remember 1995 and that Dole-Gramm “tie?”

  • Anonymous

it's not actually the secretary of state's job to “call” results.  Nothing's official till after the counties have canvassed, and that's at least a week after election day… and the state canvass is maybe a couple weeks after that.

I thought so I thought the ballots would be made available to any of the campaign's representatives if the final count was called into question.
