Media Watch: Catalog of Straw Poll Misconceptions

By admin | 08.07.07 | 12:42 pm

Cable news has begun its extensive coverage of the Republican Party of Iowa’s Ames Straw Poll, to be held at Iowa State University’s Hilton Coliseum Saturday, and not everything you see, read, or hear is true.  Throughout the week, Iowa Independent staff will monitor Straw Poll coverage and post corrections to mainstream media claims here.

Tuesday, 8/7

12:30PM, MSNBC:

From outside seating area at the Drake Diner in Des Moines, MSNBC on-air reporter Don Teague mistakenly claims that only Republicans may participate in the Straw Poll.  In truth, any adult with proof of Iowa residency (e.g., an Iowa driver license) may enter the Hilton Coliseum to vote.

On-screen graphic says “Voters purchase $35 ticket.”  In truth, the large majority of voters at the Straw Poll will get a free ticket from the campaign that they are supporting.

The truth yeah!! Keep up the good work telling the truth about this whole circus. Very scared about how major media will treat the huge Ron Paul contingent (most of whom will be buying their own tickets unlike the other campaigns) I expect in Ames should be interesting to say the least.

That said… I’ve heard some GOP folks grumbling in Iowa that a bunch of Democrats plan on participating in the Straw Poll GOP Fundraiser to help impact the outcome. Maybe so, but this doesn’t make a great deal of sense, given that it’s a fundraiser for the Iowa GOP. These grumblings, however, may have some truth, given the Democrats aren’t immune to implementing self-defeatist strategies in the presidential elections.(e.g. 2000, 2004, electability)

Trust is not given on promises People should quit voting by party line and vote by candidate’s membership affiliations such as the “Center of Foreign Relations”, or connected with the “Bilderberg group” as is Hillary. Any connection to Globalization groups is reason to believe they will not act in our best interest if elected. Any candidate labeled as contender by mainstream media, which candidate does not matter. They are not going to change our path or even care what we expect of them after elected.
Let us not forget that both Bushes campaigned on lies. We should all remember, “Read my Lips” while George Jr. campaigned on “No nation building, No policing of the world”. Lying is becoming acceptable along with attacking those who would dare question the lies. Their tool or blunt object they use to attack them, our mainstream media who should both be the ones that investigate the message first, as any real journalist would. Our mainstream media should be the very source that challenges the lies and investigates the mountains of evidence exposing the corruption and misconduct. Instead, allow hate mongers like Hannity and O’Really to attack people using lies, misinformation, falsehoods, name-calling and character assassination in lieu of facts or proof and an  illusion they are backed by the majority of the public in their attacks against those who would question lies by our leaders.
Mainstream media allows itself to serve as a weapon against people apposed to government, no longer in the protection of the people or to uphold and defend our Constitution, the rule of law, or the Bill of Rights to protect the people it has the responsibility of protecting not the government secrets or activities.
We need to get involved with those we choose based on promise’s we expect them to back up. Party lines should no longer have anything to do with how we choose to the people who will represent us. Only whom they have ties too, and how they will keep their promise to us, only the delivery of their promise can they assume there is a trust.
No longer can we blindly accept the choices put in front of us by the very source that no longer serves to protect us from our government as they are suppose too.
The internet allows us to know best candidate who will act in our behalf, certainly not the mainstream media or the political hacks that pretend to be experts and bias.
We do not have to give our trust to those who uses speeches written by someone else designed to give them our trust blindly. We need to make clear that believing a promise is not having our trust. Elected positions are only temporary until they have kept their promise, not an excuse why it has not or could not, is acceptable to hold on to their position. The assumption that they have our trust based on promises is over.
We need to write to our elected Representatives and express this to them now. This is why we have no voice in our newly elected House and Senate, and should tell them that our trust has not been earn and they should not assume has been given them until we are represented and their duties have been performed. Refusal to comply with demands required immediate evacuation of their seat.
No wear in their oath allows substitution in performing their duties to defend the Constitution and Bill of Rights if they can make up some chicken shit excuse to avoid upholding and performing duties they have an obligation to perform by cashing their paycheck. They probably do not even know what it was they swore an oath too. This would explain why they are derelict in their duties.
