Standing by his promise to ?never leave those behind who most need our hope,? Iowa?s 2nd District Rep. Dave Loebsack released statements vowing to ?follow the will of the people.?
Loebsack released the following statement in response to President Bush’s veto of the Iraq funding bill.
“Today President Bush vetoed a bill that will fund our troops, take care of our veterans and help forge a new direction in Iraq. I am very disappointed the President continues to refuse to work toward a solution that brings our involvement in Iraq to a safe conclusion for our troops. My highest priority is supporting our men and women in uniform and ensuring their safety. I hope President Bush begins to work with Congress so together we can follow the will of the American people and begin a new course in Iraq.”
Loebsack maintains his highest priority is supporting our troops and ensuring their safety and voted in support to override President Bush?s veto.
“I voted in support of the veto override because after four years of the President’s stay-the-course strategy in Iraq, we must provide a responsible plan to get our troops home and require the Iraqi government to meet basic benchmarks for stability. This legislation would have forged a new direction in Iraq and required the Iraqi government to take control of their own country by meeting key security, political and economic benchmarks. My highest priority is protecting our troops and I am disappointed the President continues to ignore the will of the American people and begin a new course in Iraq.”
