With the caucuses still months away, presidential candidates are increasingly conducting polls to test which messages resonate with Iowa voters. Chase Martyn recently deconstructed one of these polls for the Iowa Independent after Jason Eness-Potter, an Iowa City Democrat, answered survey questions that were undoubtedly part of a poll for New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.
Based on Martyn's story, Greg Sargent reports today that he also put in a call to Eness-Potter:
We followed up with a call to Eness-Potter, and he gave us some intriguing details about the call. And we've also tracked down a second person who says she got the call from the pollster and helped flesh out Penn's approach some more.
Sargent's story does not provide much new information, but it does confirm the line of attack that Clinton might take against her rivals, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards: a critique of Obama's (anti-)Iraq War stance and a reminder of Edwards's $400 haircut. It will be interesting to see if Clinton brings these attacks into the public and off the telephone lines.
