Jonathan Narcisse, the former Des Moines School Board member running for governor as a member of the Iowa Party, has launched an online petition he hopes will result in his inclusion in the three scheduled debates between Democrat Chet Culver and Republican Terry Branstad.
Culver and Branstad have agreed to three debates in the run up to the Nov. 2 election: Sept. 14 in Sioux City, Oct. 7 in Cedar Rapids and Oct. 21 in Johnston. Narcisse says his inclusion in the debates would “add substance and solution oriented discourse at a time when the contest for governor has deteriorated into negative advertising, name calling and personal attacks… ”
Narcisse isn’t the only third-party candidate running for governor. The Libertarian Party is running Eric Cooper; the Socialist Workers Party is running David Rosenfeld; and Gregory James Hughes is running as an independent.
Narcisse’s petition is available at DebateIowa.com. Should Narcisse win 2 percent of the vote this fall, the Iowa Party becomes a full-fledged political party in Iowa with caucuses and a primary in 2012.
