Recent flooding in Ames has decimated the city’s water supply and residents are in dire need of bottled drinking water.

U.S. Rep. Tom Latham, a Republican who represents the portion of Iowa that includes Ames, is requesting that companies and individuals donate bottled water by visiting several distribution locations.
“It’s not clear when [the] water will be safe to drink again,” Latham said. “But the need for drinking water can’t be put on hold because of a natural disaster. Iowans have a long history of helping their neighbors in times of crisis, and Ames residents are in desperate need. If you have a supply of bottled water and a way to transport it to Ames, please consider doing so.”
Although the distribution locations in Ames were handing out free bottled water Thursday morning, the supply was running extremely low. Officials with the City of Ames announced residents should not expect drinkable tap water until early next week.
The following distribution centers will accepted bottled water donations:
Latham has been in personal contact with city, county and Iowa State University officials since flood waters devastated the region, according to his office, which indicated that has sent letters to President Barack Obama and the Federal Emergency Management Agency in support of a federal disaster declaration for both Story and Boone counties.
