Wednesday was a difficult day for The American Independent News Network, which is the larger entity that operates The Iowa Independent. Our chief executive and founder announced two of our sister sites would close and their content would be moved to The American Independent.
A recently introduced bill could have far-reaching impact on the U.S. sugar industry, including American Crystal Sugar, a farmer-owned cooperative that locked out 1,300 Midwest workers on Aug. 1.
The chairman for Herman Cain’s Iowa effort says the campaign “relied more on the word of farmers than Washington regulators” in deciding to run an ad containing claims the Environmental Protection Agency says are false.

King co-sponsors resolution opposing Prop. 8 ruling
U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron, announced Tuesday that he was co-sponsoring a resolution in Congress condemning a federal court ruling that found California’s ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional.
U.S. District Chief Judge Vaughn Walker said the voter-approved ban violates the federal constitutional rights of gays and lesbians to marry the partners of their choice. His ruling is expected to be appealed and eventually go before the U.S. Supreme Court.
“When a judge takes the law into his hands and seeks to establish a social policy that is his preference without respect for the Constitution, without respect for the Rule of Law, then that decision needs to be rejected,” King said. “Frankly, I think this resolution is a good step in the right direction but we need to do more to rein in the courts.”
The resolution was co-sponsored by Republican U.S. Reps. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, Lamar Smith of Texas and John Fleming of Louisiana.
“If this nation does not rise up, then we’ve capitulated to the judges and it’s the tyranny of the courts,” King said. “It’s the American people that need to make this decision. Our Founding Fathers didn’t envision that there would be such awe for people in black robes that we would suspend our reason. This judge has suspended his reason, and I would be very happy to take whatever steps, however bold, to reverse this.”
So odd and totally arrogant than so many heterosexuals seem to believe that their right to vote includes a right to harm law-abiding citizens with that vote.
So very, very odd.

People like Steve King are the reason I find it harder and harder to ever vote for Republicans.
