Republican gubernatorial hopeful Terry Branstad averages an 18 percentage-point lead over Democratic Gov. Chet Culver in 13 head-to-head polls of the campaign taken since last year. But the governor’s campaign insists the numbers are improving and Branstad’s “post-primary bounce” is gone.
Monday, the latest Rasmussen Reports poll found Branstad with a 16 percentage-point lead over Culver, down from 26 percentage points in June. Tuesday, conservative blog The Iowa Republican released its latest figures, compiled by the Concordia Group, which found Branstad with an 18 percentage-point lead, down from 29 percentage points in February.
Following the Rassmussen poll, Culver campaign manager Donn Stanley dismissed the wide margins of Rasmussen, saying, “Rasmussen favors Republican candidates and that can be seen in the demographic breakdown in their polls. That demographic does not represent who will show up on Election Day.”
