Just to inject a bit of perspective here, I know someone who works for a major university on the west coast. This professor had a girl come into his office, she said “I’ll do anything for an A”, and he told her “study.” She then closed his door, took off her shirt, and repeated herself. Once again, he told her to study.

She tried another tack, and said “you know, I can just tell the dean that you came on to me”, and so he lied and said that he had an audio recorder running during his office hours, and that she had better leave and drop his class. He spent the rest of that year pretty much terrified that she might end his career with a false accusation.

I’m not saying that the girls are lying in this particular case, but let’s not jump on the “guilt by accusation” bandwagon. He may or may not be guilty, let the university investigate and find out.

What’s more amazing is students were actually being taught by a professor at that school. Most instructors at the UI are kids off the street (TAs) who aren’t qualified to teach high school yet.

A question for the above commentators: Why do you take it for granted that Professor Miller actually did what he is accused of? While I do think that he should be terminated if he did in fact commit these egregious acts, I think that, without additional evidence then what is given in the article, we should not be so quick to assume guilt. I may be, but am not yet, ashamed to be made of aluminum.
