U.S. Sen Chuck Grassley‘s office said Tuesday that a recently-launched ad from Americans United for Change is “false and misleading.”
The ad criticizes Grassley for supporting a move to block the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gas emissions. Americans United for Change called that resolution, which was defeated in the U.S. Senate last week, a “big oil bailout” and related it to the on-going oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico.
However, a press release from Grassley’s office denies that connection:
The issue ad shows pictures of the oil spill and, in Iowa, says that Grassley voted to let oil polluters off the hook. That implies that the vote the ad is talking about had to do with oil pollution but, in reality, the vote had to do with EPA regulations of CO2.
Americans United for Change also urged Grassley to support the American Power Act, a proposal which proponents say will be a breakthrough in climate legislation. However, the release from Grassley points out that BP — the company responsible for the oil spill — supports the American Power Act.
