It’s all fun and games until someone gets threatened with a watch list

Even if you aren’t familiar with the company name — Despair, Inc. — you’ve probably snickered or laughed out loud at one of its “demotivator” products. One of the newest creations, however, is drawing the ire of a few folks with .gov e-mail addresses.

Government -- If you think the problems we create are bad, just wait until you see our solutions.

Government -- If you think the problems we create are bad, just wait until you see our solutions.

According to a post on the company’s blog, quite a few people took offense after this new image was sent out via a subscriber list. One of the most egregious and inflammatory messages, which threatens the creator of the comedic art with a special spot on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security watch list, was sent from a government email address. The e-mail reads, in part:

…You ever been on a watchlist? Well, if you haven’t, you’re about to be. I’m forwarding your “hilarious” new design to a friend at the DHS who loves to stay abreast of “comedians” who mock government. One of your call center employees was kind enough to tell me the name of the gentleman who wrote that oh-so-funny Demotivater(sic)- so please tell Daniel (REMOVED) that his name will be included in my e-mail. We’ll see how funny he thinks it is the next time he tries to hop on a commercial jet! I think he’ll see the exquisite irony of the whole situation right then and there- when he has his no-no zones thoroughly scrutinized by a- wait for it!- A GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE! …

Actually, in an odd sort of way, this message gives me hope. There’s been so much talk about Gitmo and torture, but knowing that we still have government employees who are incapable of typing the word anus has me cautiously optimistic.
