Democratic Senate candidate Tom Fiegen says he has more ammunition he plans to fire at Roxanne Conlin. And he says he plans to use candidate forums today and tomorrow to release damaging information about Conlin, who is seen by many as the front-runner for the nomination to challenge U.S. Sen Chuck Grassley in November.
Fiegen told The Iowa Independent he has “more good stuff,” including negative information on Conlin which didn’t surface during her 1982 gubernatorial bid.
Earlier this week, Fiegen criticized Conlin for accepting tax breaks even though she criticizes Grassley for accepting farm subsidies.
Fiegen, who trails Conlin considerably in terms of media presence and fundraising, said disseminating this information less than two weeks from the June 8 primary puts him in a good position.
“In terms of me and my candidacy, I think this is the perfect time,” he said. “What I’ve heard from people is that they view Roxanne as having too much baggage.”
The Conlin campaign defended Conlin and her husband’s housing endeavors, saying they create jobs and provide housing for hundreds of families. Campaign officials also denied claims they are ignoring the primary race.
“We’re focused on June 8. She’s been to 99 counties; we have ads running on television,” campaign manager Mark Daley told The Iowa Independent. “We have [a primary] election to win but we are anxious to take on Sen. Chuck Grassley.”
