Feds provide more opportunity for public comment at antitrust workshop

By Lynda Waddington | 03.12.10 | 11:31 am

One of the largest areas of contention surrounding today’s agriculture antitrust workshop series has been the apparent lack of adequate opportunities for live public comment. Although the public has been able to submit written comment to federal officials for some time, many felt there was a need to publicly make comment at the workshop itself where such remarks would be added into the official record and also would have the opportunity of being repeated by media outlets.

In light of the continuing outcry about the need for increased participation, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack just announced that a time previously set aside for lunch would now become an additional time for public comment. Attendees are being asked to pick up a box lunch and return to the main conference area.
