Roughly 30 minutes after a joint DOJ/USDA agriculture workshop was called to order by federal officials, the editor of AgProfessional is cautioning advocates not to expect much from the proceedings.
In a letter posted on the Cattlemen’s Network at 10 a.m., Richard Keller writes that politicians, even those not in attendance, will be making their voices heard on the issues discussed Friday and questions whether anything good can come of the scheduled agenda.
… Let’s not forget the recent Supreme Court ruling that basically says corporations are not subject to limits in campaign finance. There are some huge ag companies with consumer connections. I think they might have a few bucks to invest in fighting new regulations.
So, I’m not expecting much to really happen that will help the nation’s farmers and ranchers following these hearings. In my opinion, it’s a big to do that will result in nothing.
