A man accused of setting hogs loose and running them down with a vehicle has turned himself in to the Story County Sheriff's Office.Jonathan Lee Wright, 21, has been charged with criminal mischief, trespassing and 41 counts of animal abuse after an investigation led to his arrest Wednesday.
Iowa Independent reported last week that more than 500 hogs were released from the Don Struthers farm near Collins, many of them maliciously run over with a motor vehicle. Initially, 15 hogs died or were injured as a result of the attack, but that number grew to more than 30 other hogs that were later found to have been injured and that had to be euthanized.
Wright is a neighbor to the Struthers farm, where the attack occurred.
Eric Finch, who is a caretaker of the hogs at the farm, told Iowa Independent that he knew of no neighbors or anyone in the community who had any gripe with the Struthers farm operation.
