New site offers Iowa-specific view of education

By Lynda Waddington | 03.10.09 | 2:18 pm

A new Web site offering from the Iowa Department of Education provides state educators unfettered access to research findings.

Are there district-wide characteristics associated with success on standardized tests?

Is there a relation between school district size and student achievement?

Is there a difference in the gaps in the achievement for students with different socio-economic levels between schools?

These are just some of the questions educators will be able to find answers to when they visit Intersect, a new Web site where experts and researchers from the Iowa Department of Education post working papers. The basic idea is that knowledge is power.

Completed research can help teachers and school administrators see connections between local state and even national date. The foundation of solid policy affecting Iowa students is built at the intersection of research and education.

Intersect officially launched today.
