Approximately 20 workers were arrested at the Monsanto Seed Company Friday morning in Grinnell.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has stated that this is a local law enforcement operation and that arrests were made on criminal charges.
ICE was notified one week ago about this local operation which involves people from Marshalltown who were subcontracted by Manpower, Inc. to work at Monsanto.
The arrests were made in Poweshiek County, but police from Marshall County were involved in the operation. The individuals are being held in the Marshall County jail and all are believed to reside in Marshalltown.
Family members are currently seeking legal representation for their relatives. Further details, including the names of those arrested, have not been released.
