McCarthy Responds to Senate Passage of Biden Amendment

The U.S. Senate voted 75 to 23 today to pass Delaware Sen. Joe Biden’s amendment that provides for regional autonomy within a federal system. The amendment also calls for the support of the United Nations and Iraq’s neighbors to help implement an end to the civil war.

Speaking on behalf of his eight colleagues in the Iowa Legislature who have endorsed Delaware Sen. Joe Biden for president, Iowa House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy issued the following statement regarding the Senate vote:

    Americans Should Reject the Imperial Posturing of Joe Biden Neither Joe Biden, Levin McCarthy or any othyer American has the right to dictate what political structure should exist in Iraq. Biden wants to add to the grievous injury of an illegal invasion that has savaged that hapless country, the insult of negating Iraqi sovereignty and ignoring even the clearly stated position of the vast majority of Iraqi members of Parliament, who have clearly rejected any division of the country.
