DCCC puts Latham on its target list

By Jason Hancock | 02.03.09 | 12:33 pm

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is targeting 28 Republicans who voted against the economic stimulus bill last week in the U.S. House with radio ads in their districts. Iowa 4th District Rep. Tom Latham made the list.

In addition to the strategic radio ads, the DCCC will also send e-mails to 3 million voters and nearly 100,000 person-to-person telephone calls in the 28 disticts.

In Iowa, the ad focuses on the portion of the economic stimulus bill that provides money to schools.

Did you know Congressman Tom Latham opposed over $526 million to modernize crumbling Iowa schools, but supported building new schools in Iraq? Times are tough, tell Tom Latham to put American jobs first.

Politico’s Josh Kraushaar points out that the list of targeted Republicans usually approximates the party’s top targets for the upcoming election, which puts the cross hairs right on Latham for 2010. The Ames Republican cruised to victory in 2008 over Democrat Becky Greenwald. The DCCC showed interest in the race early on but never got heavily involved.
